You Were The Song

…that my soul used to sing

You were the song
that my soul longed to sing
like perfect strains of music
we wound ourselves together
the sky was midnight blue
and stardust and rose petals
were gently falling around us
eternity circled in a silken haze
and the nights were filled
with the sweet fragrance of flowers
all ebony and moon glow
but now only the shadows remain
lost and forgotten moments
continue to frequent my soul
and one familiar voice echoes
as if it touches the stone walls
I awaken from the dream
to find myself empty and alone
just as an extinguished candle
leaves the night
