…protective and tight

Two distinct roots, reaching for the sun
entangled so deeply, that they tangle as one
the wind cannot reach, what the underground hides
a union of bodies, of hearts and of minds
two separate orbits, pulled into the light
the eraser of shadows and the downfall of night
no longer just drifting, through infinite space
we found our own centre, in one warm embrace
I was the canvas and you were the brush
and a sudden awakening, was born in the hush
two different colours, that blended like glue
creating a shade, that the world never knew
two different ships, that weathered the same sea
you sailed for your horizon, as I sailed for me
but our anchors dropped, in the very same bay
to build a new life, where both of us stay
two separate maps, with their edges all torn
left out in the weather, where the wild winds are born
you walked your own valleys, of shadows and stone
and I crossed my rivers, entirely alone
we guarded our borders with fences and pride
keeping the rest of the world locked outside
then boundaries softened, and barriers fell
a quiet surrender, that no language could tell
we didn’t stop being, the people we were
but sharpness grew gentle, and lines became blurred
your north met my south, in a beautiful bend
where your rugged highway, found my quiet end
now I look at the life we have managed to trace
a brand new geography found in this space
we stand as a unit, protective and tight
greeting the morning and tracking the night
two voices, two histories, finally bound
building a home on this newly shared ground
