…forever restless in the dark

These desperate hours, solitude drenched in midnight
your memory still lingers, a slow ticking clock
my heart a cold stone, I feel a cool touch against my skin
a breathless moment echoing from the mirror
our infinite dance, this moment is everything
love has no shadows, yet somehow I am drowning in them
time is moving slowly, like water, in quiet tremulous motion
I drift fathoms deep, where light and shade shift like memories
days seem less than a moment
the leaves are fluttering like shadows of memories
cast by a cold moon and shifting in the liquid dark
ghostly whispers are ever playing upon my soul
just one familiar song, over and over again
darkness falls heavily across the heaving swell of night
and when the winds ask, the trees whisper my name
a window opens onto an aching midnight sea
and I hear that old, sad song, a sweet, haunting melody
this night is full of many ghosts, but you are the only one I see
what we had still haunts me, passing slowly, like a walk in a dream
time has stopped for me again
for you were my seconds, my minutes, my hours
the seasons come, the ages pass
and still your memory remains
my heart forever restless in the dark
