I Built a Soft Silken Cocoon

…of all my hopes and dreams

Everything I ever thought I knew, is now just dust upon the wind
for our love is lost, like the fading hues of autumn
all I have now are my memories and an undeniable sorrow
I found myself retreating from the light
and I hungered for the darkness
and for a long while, silence was all that I could hear
life became quiet and all the things I once enjoyed
faded to whispers and quietly disappeared
I wrapped myself in threads of pain and unspoken truths
but in my sorrow, something whispered deep inside of me
that I must not lose myself inside my misery
so I slowly released myself from the threads of pain
I built a soft silken cocoon, of all my hopes and dreams
and of all my memories lost in the dark
and all the other things, that I had thought forever lost
I heard whispers in the cocoon, as the past became dust
and I found my grief and myself, in the course of letting go
and now the cocoon that once was my shelter
feels like something that I must leave
for though it sheltered me, when I needed it most
it cannot become a permanent home
I know that I must trust the winds and leave
I cannot let the fear of flight, keep me from discovering the light
so I break the final thread, and I rise on my fragile wings
still unsure of what tomorrow will bring
