I ponder the definitions of falling
and I wonder why falling in love
is something we crave
for we stand upon its’ shores
shifting sands beneath our feet
moving from a higher to a lower level
rapidly and without control
a relentless pull
a force too great to fight
destined to be set adrift
forever lost in the moment
the uncertainty of returning
our shadows call to each other
between the here and there
in the endless ebb and flow
breaking apart over and over
like waves on an empty shore
only to collapse to the ground in pieces
for in each return and each retreat
love often takes more than it gives
