The Night, A Clever Seductress

…takes me down

I awake once more to hear the rain
and the voice of distant thunder
I have been searching in my dreams for you
I walk down empty hallways
tread the well-worn paths
and then I always wonder
what brought me here
but my heart, my heart, is the most worn
all these years far from each other
alone amidst my tangled sheets
how I need to feel your touch
even in the silence, I am never alone
you still fill the empty spaces
I feel the night all around me
and I feel you in my liquid dreams
but the last of them
always slips through my fingers
and the moment cascades around me
as the night, a clever seductress
takes me down
