…cover the sun

The ashes of yesterday cover the sun
and all has fallen into a deep silence
even the winds are barely whispering
as the bare branches of empty trees
are reaching out to the heavens
pleading their case to the un-listening skies
never knowing that soon the winds will be wild
and they will just be playthings in its’ clutches
the earth beneath will be cluttered
with the debris of the lost and broken leaves
and the bloodstained remains of the last blossoms
the last leaves fall gently downwards
painting upon the canvas of an empty sky
spiralling in graceful crowds
deserting their desolate trees
as the greening and the blooming
are now becoming their bitter endings
