Between

…two hearts

And then too soon, the night is through
are you a just figment of my imagination?
I hold my breath, aching for your touch
the ghost of you fading
flowers to ash, ash to dust
I have pain, so much pain
electricity runs through my veins
lightning bolts carving riverbeds and ocean floors
leaving me empty of everything but agony
eternal silence between two hearts
once so close you and I, now so far apart
I hear you often in the quiet moments
when grief becomes a storm
your soul whispering in the darkness
magnifies my loss and longing
and I am drowning in it
drenched in the tears of the desolate winds
for sorrow has a scent, a perfume of its own
and I breathe it in, for as long as it lingers
as it is all I have left of you
