I hear the toll of a distant bell
somewhere beyond my window
the bell awakens my ghosts
long-lost memories suddenly returning
I see us both, younger than eternity
smiling in the summer rain
that once convinced me
we could survive anything
but now we contemplate our regrets
memory is a strange god
and I imagine time reversing
the clocks turning backwards
leaves rising from the ground
and returning to their branches
there is one toll remaining
one final note before the world
crosses the invisible threshold
between yesterday and tomorrow
the moment when yesterday
becomes unreachable
I whisper your name into the echoes
