The Long Unwinding

…begins once more

The darkness is singing with rain, cold as a long winter
and there is an eerie mist slowly drifting like lost ghosts
pools of moonlight are quietly circling in liquid silver
and from the shadows, I hear a rending of silk
as the threads of longing sing their painful songs
and now the long unwinding begins once more
I look into your eyes and again I am lost in them
I feel myself surrendering and I think not why
now relentless, the darkness is flowing in like a storm
and my lost memories are whispering
louder than the echoes that haunt me
but each memory that comes spiralling down
is inevitably swept away again by the ruthless wind
desperately clinging in flight, for just a moment
before surrendering to the fall
I am caught in the undercurrents, unable to hold on to the past
I feel the sharp sword of solitude, carving its mark into my heart
I stand here for the longest of times, achingly alone
trembling like a fragile leaf, obliged to weather the storm
I answer the call of loss and surrender to its cold embrace
the night is dripping and I feel it folding me into itself
all is forsaken and all that torments me
is still whispering sweet and low
and the waves still rise in the dawning
alone again, I am still longing for you
