Petals Fall

…diaphanous

Petals fall diaphanous
drifting on the breeze into the unseen places
slowly spinning as they descend into the quiet void
between the tree roots and memories
and I follow them, my mind slipping into the past
as though guided by the drifting colours
and the faint scent of honeysuckle on the breeze
floating freely in the perfumed empty space
feather-light and fragile
descending into fleeting fragrant flight
their silent grief echoing into the empty halls of time
like the fragrant blossoms, dreams float silently to me
and the shadows dance like lovers
as time passes without notice
the trees stands bereft
their branches darkly reaching, beseeching
weeping fragrant tears for all that was lost
along the petal laid path
such a gentle loss
a breeze of transience stirs the air
as the petals fade away into the dirt
yet their perfume still lingers upon the wind
