Slipping Away

…like the whispers of a fading day

I am but a shadow in the mirror
unreachable and falling in a never ending spiral
the pain of parting
like a river running through my heart
I feel out of place, left behind
an in the moment, the night is drowning me
and I ache to gaze one last time
in the endless depths of your eyes
a clock ticks and chimes in melancholy notes
as time slowly sculpts it’s dark illusions
the fire and I are dying, each a slow death
drowning in a thousand shades of blue
memories shifting in and out of reach
for this desolate place is where you left me
colours now fading into silhouette
this heart of mine still longs for you
as much as my soul begs me to look away
it is not your face that haunts me
but the warmth of your gentle touch
the things unsaid still whisper to me
but the silence speaks louder than words
and again I am melting, quietly slipping away
without a ripple, like the whispers of a fading day
