I Am Shattered

…like fragments of a broken mirror

In the velvet night, the river of memories
is quietly murmuring in the wine of twilight
standing strong before the winds of time
one by one they return like leaves from a tree
a snow of rose petals falling like gentle rain
reminders of the past fleeing like fugitives
from the stained-glass windows of time
for hidden deep within my heart is a dark shifting sea
with shades of light and shifting shadows
aching with your memory
I am shattered, like fragments of a broken mirror
still longing for that exquisite dream
in which the light of heaven burns
a place of peace and gentle breezes
a distant mountain of wildflowers and cool meadows
under this lonely sky my dreams are whispering
slowly floating, forever azure beyond the wind
my reflection is no longer clear
and I am fading softly away
into the faceless tides of sorrow
