…softly fading

In this slow drifting
unquiet night
your absence
still fills the emptiness
with such sorrow
an endless ache
loss has lodged an arrow
deep within my heart
I still ache for you
to call my name again
to whisper in my ear
those forgotten words

every beginning
is an ending
and every ending
an incongruous binding
a connection
that can never
be undone
after lifetimes
after all
that we have shared
the eternal longing
still lingers

we both know
all the secrets
that we keep
and the distance
between us
is but a bridge
we have to cross
but here, in the embrace
of darkness
I remember a dream
once lost

I hide it deep within
and when
it has sobbed out
it’s last utterance
it brings back
the warmth
of your embrace
an endless ache
oh how I have wished
for that

my soul is aflame
and silence soars
like a symphony
my thoughts
dancing like pain
now here I am
alone again
all my dreams
softly fading
and nothing
remains the same
