…as I breathe

We are apart yet always together
and from the distance your voice comes to me
as morning lingers just beyond reach
in breath after breath we dwell, you and I
as the earth is to the moon and the overarching sky
or the endless returning of waves to the shore
you open me gently to the morning
and I am melting like the gold of the sun
into a welcoming sea
now alone with our ghosts
in this place of images and illusions
my senses swim and I am drenched and drowning
in the lingering fragrance of memories
dream into dream
I am fading further away from waking
the violets exhale
their perfumed breath to the waiting sky
and roses blush their velvet faces
like my heart
ever fading too early with the weather
from all directions
the winds bring petals of cherry
and carry with them
fragile flowers of sweet memories
the mind to heart, the heart to soul
your shadow falls fully upon me
search for me, deep within my eyes
and then let me love you
as I breathe
