Your Love

…is like an ocean

Your love is like an ocean, I am within you
you are all about me, you surround me
you sustain me, leave me starving, all and nothing
the weight of you does crush me, leaves me gasping
I have no substance in you, weightless, I am anchored
you are the yawning chasms where I fear to tread
you draw me forward, ease my mind
and then I am alone, abandoned, no direction
and I seek refuge from the teeming life within you
your love is like an ocean, I feel you touch me
I am engulfed, I sense you everywhere
and there is no escape but that you wish it
it is left to me to make of it what I can
I breathe you in, despite that it might drown me
I let you roll me under to your depths
I have no will but to surrender
I seek your salty kisses, your embraces
I am adrift upon the waves of your desire
your love is like an ocean, it destroys me
seeking balmy moments, ease from rocking
my stomach churns from tossing in your wake
my heart soars to feel your gentle moments
yet I cannot take myself to distant beaches
I am destined to be wrecked upon your shoreline
the shards of your absence cut me to the core
I bleed for the need of your affection
I breathe you in and want you ever more
your love is like an ocean, I am drowning
I yearn for you, reach for you and I see it all
your darkness is like death when it’s upon me
your love drags me down and holds me
lest I seek release into the air without
but your light is as of heaven breaking through
more glorious than any summer day
I, who am within, take on your colours
feel your shifting moods, am driven
your love is like an ocean
it enfolds me
