I was once vibrant
a portrait of copper and coral
painted in fading light
the years have taken their toll
winter has now settled in
the paint is beginning to run
little by little, my palette is fading
becoming the shades of deep skies
the bruises of midnight
veins beneath porcelain skin
and the oceans I never dared sail
my colours running blue
my metamorphosis distilled
into one mournful hue
that I wear, not in sorrow
but an act of reverence
for every beautiful, vivid thing
that has already faded away
