My Heart Reaches Yours

…in the distance

We slip into a time of unravelling moods
anxious thoughts so quickly consume
assumptions, that though fragile
still control
in breath after breath we dwell
one day at a time
each apart, each alone
yet always together
amid cobwebs and dust of the past
cold blow the winds of reality
the sky is not as blue as yesterday
and autumn turns down a dark narrow lane
as petals fall, without a sound
free falling in timeless grace
in false tranquility
my heart reaches yours in the distance
like a shadow, it either precedes or follows you
we fall, a slow descent from sense to sense
floating gently downward
we gaze out towards nothing
for as long as we can
beyond the closed doors
and shaded windows of our fears
relief comes with each breath drawn
morning comes
smoothing the flaws of pain and fear
and we return again, to light
