One Brief Recollection

…breaks me wide open

Our path was changed by the stars
yet still we are connected in wild harmony
I hear the melodies of your heart
gently adrift and shifting, upon the whispers of the wind
they sing of a love once found and of a love once lost
of memories and misplaced dreams
all those things that my soul has corralled into the shadows
where they roam in the dark corners
far away from the light of the day
buried in the shrouds of eternal night
where they wander aimless and out of sight
but my pen still remembers
and the dark ink of my sorrow
is bleeding once more, bleeding into the empty pages
of the book of mourning, crafting line after line
until one brief recollection, a lightning bolt
that breaks me wide open
distils my whole existence to a mere moment in time
sorrow comes in many forms
and now the wild winds of loss are circling again in my soul
