When The Winds Ask

…the trees whisper your name

The evening falls heavily and with great uncertainty
an all-encompassing darkness that flickers and grows
here in this soft black conspiracy, nothing appears as it was
and we are careless of time, of place and of reality
my thoughts carry me gently across the endless sea of night
and when the winds ask, the trees whisper your name
the sound paints in my mind, a long familiar picture
arranged in such a way, that gives the illusion of melody
the moon casts down its shadows into the deepening night
and a window opens onto the aching midnight sea
again with you I long to lie, to watch the stars as they paint the sky
until we have exceeded heaven and ecstasy has taken flight
