This Flame

…that devours

In the absence of you
the clouds gather beneath me
the roaring winds are like changing tides
with every passing hour
I wish the words from your mouth
thoughts like autumn leaves
twist into fluttering piles
or drift on alone, as I do
with the breeze I let it pass
this flame that devours
memories flutter
like the flight of a delicate petal
the unending timeless flow of water
my sails unfurled to catch the breeze
the quiet kiss that has no end
you tread lightly softly as you go
and I see you again
framed by an empty window
