I watch the waves crash
against the shore
a relentless pounding
that echoes the rhythm
of my heart
its rapid pulse
a constant reminder
of your soft touch
upon my skin
the salty spray, like kisses
caresses my trembling lips
my heart is breaking
over and over
with every return
and every retreat
for there is joy
and there is sorrow
the devastating simplicity
of the truth
time is turning to dust
slipping slowly
through my fingers
trickling down
to the once solid ground
beneath my feet
