Memories

…in silhouette

Not acquainted with the concept of honesty
your unctuous words deceptively sweet
dripping from lips
whispering sonnets and ballads in soft velvet tones
the threads of deception
and honeyed lies reflected in your hollow eyes
silver tongued serenades
seeping sweetly from the dark depths of your soul
bleeding through the cracks in your tired disguise
reality unveiling the lies masquerading as truth
the promises made, never meant to be kept
intended to feed my hunger
as they slip quietly away into the crevices of ambiguity
you dance around your unrelenting treachery
with such confidence and ease
but like nature, it cannot help but show itself
this cold winter of betrayal
I feel the weight of your presence heavily upon my soul
searching for the scars carved into my skin
searching for flowers in fallow fields
searching for warmth in the darkest winter
searching for answers that I already have
tainted reflections, mirrors that lie
memories in silhouette
slowly fading against a darkening sky
