My Hunger

…remains insatiable

Beneath the still surface memories are lingering
and the undertow of longing keeps dragging me back to you
back into to the endless depths, into the infinite seas of loss
for our love was but a storm, its wild winds
scattering the sharp shards and the broken pieces of my heart
into the eddies of time, now forever unretrievable
now relentless waves are crashing
against the fragile shores of my enduring grief
questions are lingering
what could have been?
what should have been?

their echoes are endless, lingering in relentless time
the horizon shimmers, ghostly and fading
and the stars are no guide, just an illusion of the past
all that remains now is a deathly silence
so profound, that it has become my companion
my constant hunger remains insatiable
and I return to the sea over and over again
letting its waves wash over me
for love, even in its absence, has tides that I cannot resist
