…against reality

Our love was unconditional, as the sun and the air
before it faded away to whispers
and then there was only silence and forgotten promises
each day another fight against reality
as you left, the light left too
and now I am drifting away into the dying night
like a dying leaf, on a dying breeze
I linger here with my memories and I wait in hope and despair
I still hear your voice, deep within, no flight, just fight
I seek the light, you have left me
and night after empty night
I find myself wandering down endless familiar pathways
walking in my dreams with you
surrounded by the quiet murmurs of sad weeping winds
now standing alone on the precipice
shadowed trees beckon to me
drifting slowly in peaceful space
in this quiet place of lost souls
I fight to remember the hollow call
of promises broken and unrequited devotion
in the irreversible nature of time I must be patient with my pain
my colours, may no longer be fading
but my heart, is empty in your wake
