The Heavy Weight

…of emptiness

Between the here and there, between the now and then
there was a time when love was free of care
but in the in between, my rivers ran deep
my stony heart had much to tell of a sorrow that never left
and how I waited with endless longing
for the one who could not return
the wind’s songs lazily drifted through the willows
moonlight softly flowing
as the ripples of time caressed my soul
and from the other side
I often heard your distant voice, calling soft and low
whispering our secrets from a distant place
those memories, so poignant
the heavy weight of emptiness, weighed upon my soul
in my loneliness my tears fell, into the river dark
but I knew they could never reach your distant shores
forever destined to remain apart
