The Lilting Ocean

…of all that is lost

The endless swell of sorrow
a crestless wave
my heart is heavy
as I watch you leave

in the lilting ocean
of all that is lost
silence stabs at my soul
like a knife

for though we have parted
over and over
always returning
as a river to a stream

the distance between us
is now too far
and what is done
cannot be undone

the hourglass tilts
as time stops for me
ever shifting
my dreams are drifting

and the wind
whispers her secrets
into the vastness
of the echoing void

in the darkness
I struggle to find the light
but it is lost in a place
I can no longer reach

now mourning shadows
are circling me
the endless swell of sorrow
a crestless wave
