…bitter endings

The ashes
of yesterday
cover the sun
all has fallen
to silence
even the winds
are broken
the bare branches
of empty trees
are reaching out
to heaven
pleading their case
to the un-listening skies

the earth beneath
cluttered
with the debris
of lost
and broken leaves
and the
bloodstained
remains
of the last
blossoms
the greening
and the blooming
now becoming
their bitter endings
