To Eternity

…strange interlude of quiet

There is a thrill of blossom
in a motionless world of white
colours across an empty sky

petals and snowflakes
whirl like dancers as they fall
the beauty of sun on ice

winter is a thick blanket
of ivory and gold
of jade and emerald and aquamarine

that fade away all too soon
glittering for but a season
in harsh sunlight’s glare

how fragile the silence
here they have all fallen
in this strange interlude of quiet

soon to vanish into thin air
not yet delivered
to eternity
