Two tangled leaves
Tumbling together in silence
To the ground
Clinging to each other
Against the pull of the relentless wind
Such melancholy falls on me
Trees stand bare and cold
The long autumn shadows
Dark pools lapping at my feet
This season of endings
Always alone now
Under steel grey mourning skies
Lost deep in my memories
I stand in the darkening
And follow their journey
Those two tangled leaves
For the longest of times
