Dark As Smoke

Dark As Smoke

Old myths

Partings

And lonesome miles

Play upon a sleeping mind

Dreams are as they are

Dark as smoke

Vaguely sensed

As strange nocturnal

Velvet brushings of a moth

Inspiration’s otherworldly breezes

Are but indications of the soul

Composing

From the absent shapes of air

A butterfly

Imprisoned in our mind

Flower shadows

Restlessly moving

Rooted in darker worlds

Ghosts of memories

A jumble of stones

A river of stars

Later submerged

By the things of the day

We cannot thus evade

Our unlived life

A mirror

Clear of anything

Where one side

Is illuminated

And the other

Only night
