After You Are Gone

After You Are Gone

The light dies so quickly

After you are gone

At first there are shadows

Just fluttering

Softly tremulous

Like the wings of butterflies

Caressed by the breeze

But then comes the night

Swooping in

Relentless

Like the ebb

Rolling back to sea

Black satin feathers

Brushing my soul

As they beat

Over and over

The endless darkness

Flowing over me
