A Dark Bell

A Dark Bell

On a moonless night of a million stars

A cloud rolls over the water like a shroud

The air is too heavy to breathe

And all colour melts into one

Here all hope expires

I have lost all sense of direction

A dark bell tolls

Like a desperate, beating heart

A heaviness thickens the air

Time is indifferent

In my dreams the pounding goes on

Wave after wave

Let this suffering pass from me

Let your ocean pull me under

The sweet release of sleep

In the space between two heartbeats

Is the door to eternity

Surrender, the only option

Time melts away, like ice from winter

And only my shadow is left behind

Restless and uneasy

Wandering the trails of waking dreams
