Shadows Of The Past

Shadows Of The Past

The memories I’ve kept

Seem from another life

Time that passed away in wisps

Like smoke

That which was once a fire

Now but an ember

Walking by lakes

And sun warmed places

Blinded by unceasing sunlight

I tread on shadows of the past

Cloud-mists in deep hollows

Drifting elegantly

Clustered in dense patches

Glistening in morning sun

But the colour of the morning

Is always painted on darkness

The centuries unfold

The seasons pass on by

For a time I am content

With the silence

And the rippled pool

Is peaceful once more

Until he beckons once again

In dreams
