 The morning sun rises

With a frozen, golden, stare

The rosy dawn reaches out

With unexpected, icy, fingers

The gentle breezes sting my face

The sky is cold and blue, a thin blanket

The shining, haughty moon stares heartless

Out of time and place

Waiting out the endless hours

Til I see your face again

Marking off the minutes in my mind

The miles reach out between us

Like an endless blackened highway

Winding on to the horizon

Wishing away the ticking seconds

That we must spend apart

And feeling lost where I live

Without you

In The Tangled Dark

 He walks in the darkness, amongst the trees

He moves through the oaks and elms

In the shadows

Reaching for me in the tangled dark

He winds amongst the branches

In the forest

His thoughts are caressing me

From the shadows

Relentlessly searching

Through falling shades of night

He walks in the darkness

In the intimate darkness

He looks for me in his imagination

Year upon year, night upon night

He comes for me

Just for me

He looks for the light I have left him

Just for him

Moving within and without

Always looking

He wrestles with memories

He wanders day upon day

Down endless pathways

In his dreams

With me

The Unravelling Night 

 She stands alone

At the very cusp of the night

Face turned to the distant stars

Stars so achingly bright

That they hide the clouds

The ever present clouds, in her eyes

She feels a tremor deep within

As a gentle, searching breeze

Trails slowly across her mood

She feels a growing warmth

As her blood circles

Endlessly flows beneath

She senses the night unravelling

In the perfumed breeze

The tides of memory roll

Awakening familiar echoes

In her close held soul

Rousing the sleeping phantoms

Of the past

Such a sweet, subtle spell

The moonlight weaves

But then, like an icy shadow

Comes the errant thought

Did the sun used to fall

Just in that place?

Only to fade

In the clutches of the night

Did it fall just there?

Where the moons’ silver

Spills and stains now

As leaves float in idle play

And scatter on the winds

Through the inconsistent dark

The rocks stand in stony silence

And the sea rolls over all

In sobbing waves of grief

She hears it

A voice that never was

Yet she knows, she remembers

And wherever he treads

She longs to also go

And drifting, like a fallen blossom

Fragrant and fragile

Her feelings return

Swirling and wild like a winter storm

And like the passion

At the heart of a dream

Unconquered by the sunless hours

She knows his heart

Always

On The Cresting Sea

 The lapping of water at her feet

The broken image of the moon on the water

The blossoms in ruins, her dreams remain unspoken

Through long, still nights

There is a lonely longing she cannot name

All is lost and covenant broken

The things of love and beauty all but memories

She is wistfulness and she is melancholy

Another night approaches on swift silent wing

And she is just drifting on the cresting sea

Hovering on a whisper, riding on lengthening shadows

And once again, nothing has changed

She reaches out for him and touches loneliness

In the darkness and in the languishing years

There is nothing

But the silence of a falling tear

An Unspoken Promise

Warned by a footfall in the deepest of dreams

I hear a familiar voice

Carried by a breath so sweet

Like the aching pull of a rippling tide

I hear you whispering all the secrets of the universe

I drift even closer into the depths of your eyes

This is an emptiness where I can be myself

Where I can find myself , and you

For a single instant, my heart leaps to see your face

I know you, somehow

Alone in a room fragrant with roses

I let my thoughts pull you closer

You take my breath away

Many paths we have walked together

You are a presence that lingers and transcends all

Something about you touches my soul

There is an unspoken promise

And it touches me this day

It will never be the same

What else is there apart from this moment?

And I will remember you

For eternity

A Deeper River Flows

Those dark, haunting eyes

They have taken the stars from me

You walked along these halls

And those forever burning candles

That once reflected in your face

Their last flames now wither in the wind

Leaving only shadows to linger on

And your voice, it still echoes in the breeze

But before me now a deeper river flows

And a new voyage in yielding waves awaits

Here, where beginnings are dreams

Endings are beginnings

Lost Again

Endlessly wandering

In the undulating drifts, of my mind

Where the all the aching echoes

Of the past remain

I have been searching

For faint traces of his footprints

But the passing years have taken them

It seems but an instant ago

He lived within my heart

Where he gave rise to deep longings

And disturbed the tranquillity

But there was never enough time

To enfold myself in him

There were no colours rich enough

To paint him into memory

Does he linger too long

Upon yesterday’s shores?

Or does he simply drift

Too far to hear me calling?

Some moments fade all too soon

Leaving not a trace behind

Some moments must await their time

In the silence of the night they whisper

Like the sand speaks to the sea

With each slapping wave

They retreat into sleepless waiting

Becoming lost again

In the depths of my heart

Like Shadows

Stepping out, on long unused pathways

Through a weeping mist

Through all the familiar places

Behind us the crumbling walls

The deep vividness of night

Falling on waves of fire

The roses’ velvety folds

A heavy, scented breeze

Winding new roads to old places

Petals full of moonlit dew

Endlessly entwined

Spilling colours

Lilies float in a sea of green

In pools reflecting ancient glades

And die, like shadows on the deep

All Falls Into Light

The stars are beneath our feet

There is a sighing in the wind

And then, the reflection shatters

Spilling the forgotten dreams

Following the rolling tide

Into the ebbing night

Silver trailing into the depths

Of all the shadows

Lacing the fading dark

And then, a many layered sky

Let loose beneath the sun

Melting, into the sea

The horizon swept clean

The circle is complete

And all falls into light
